Sacred Futurities invites writers to explore how art and art historical narratives in the twentieth century have often failed to take the sacred into account. “Sacred” here is defined as the field of thought and making in which humans forge connection to the intangible aspects of life (including death). In contrast, contemporary artists at the millennium and into the 21st century have embraced and employed the sacred in their work. This collection accounts for some of these artists and practices from across a diverse set of experiences.
