At this panel, artists Barbara Carrasco, Marie Romero Cash, and Kathy Vargas, who engage with mediums spanning painting, printmaking, woodcarving, and photography, will consider how they explore historic forms and influences through a contemporary lens. This program is presented on Zoom.
This conversation is co-moderated by Sonja Gandert, Assistant Professor, Department of Art and Art History, University of Colorado Boulder, and Rita Gonzalez, Terri and Michael Smooke Curator and Department Head of Contemporary Art Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The U.S. Latinx Art Forum (USLAF) is proud to launch the 2025–2026 “X as Intersection” Program Series in partnership with the Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, El Museo del Barrio, and the National Museum of Mexican Art.
X as Intersection is a five-part public program series featuring conversations with fellows from the fifth cohort of the Latinx Artist Fellowship, an initiative of the US Latinx Art Forum. Each program brings together artists and curators in dialogue across mediums, geographies, and generations with opportunities for live exchange and Q&A.
